“I said I would help,” you meow to yourself, “and I will. I’ll go back to Pumpkin and take her to my home.”
When Pumpkin sees you again, she brightens up but slumps with hunger again when she sees that you have no food. “Come with me,” you hiss quietly so no other creature could hear. She slowly follows you as you tiptoe along the fence to your open window. You leap inside, landing quietly, and after Pumpkin does too you lead her to your refilled bowl.
After each of you have your share, you lead her to your box where she immediately falls asleep with you curled near her, back-to-back.
In the morning the little girl squeals with delight to find another cat in her room.
